Stay up to date

One of our dreams has come true: the Alliance for Tompotika Conservation has just been awarded a grant to purchase thousands of acres of precious, imperiled tropical forest habitat in the foothills of sacred Mount Tompotika, Indonesia. These forests are home to myriad unusual and threatened species like the Sulawesi giant civet, the babirusa deer-pig, and the tiny primate tarsier, as well as the magnifi cent maleo bird whose nesting grounds AlTo has protected on a nearby beach. Full of a complex and leafy tangle of shrubs, vines, and giant old-growth hardwood trees, these forest lands will be purchased by AlTo, managed in collaboration with local people, and protected as a permanent tropical forest preserve. All we need to do is raise 20% matching funds to support training in organic gardening, ecotourism facilities, and a forest restoration project that will provide jobs and sustainable livelihoods for nearby villagers.
You are invited to join us as a co-founder of the new Tompotika Rainforest Preserve. For a donation of $100, you can become a preserve “shareholder.” For each $100 donation we receive, more than fi ve acres of this pristine tropical rainforest will be protected in
perpetuity. Your name will be listed as a founding contributor, and you will receive a
certifi cate suitable for gift-giving. You can also visit “your” forest by joining one of AlTo’s
ecotours to Indonesia, to witness its unique wildlife and natural splendors for yourself.
This is an extraordinary opportunity—only once in a blue moon do we have the chance to
purchase tropical rainforest for permanent protection here in the world’s biodiversity
epicenter, and right now every dollar we put up will leverage four additional dollars for
the land purchase.
One hundred dollars. Five acres of tropical forest. A legacy in perpetuity.
In these uncertain times, invest in something that matters, that lasts. Be part of an
international partnership that’s working. Offset your carbon. Give a gift to a loved one
that’s also a gift to endangered wildlife, to our children, to the very future of our planet.
Please see reverse for how to sign on.
With gratitude and hope for our future,

Marcy Summers, AlTo Director
