dscf56631The Ecological Evolution group participated in the 3rd annual meeting of the Asia/Pacific Chapter meeting of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Feb 12-15 2009.

  • Prof. Chuck Cannon gave a plenary lecture on “Genomics and Tropical Biology: diving into the deep end”.
  • Assoc. Prof. Ferry Slik presented “Forest Carbon and Biogeography: explaining why Bornean forests possess 60% more live aboveground biomass than the Amazon”.
  • Assist. Prof. Chai-Shian Kua presented “No assembly required: next-gen sequence data and in silico hybridization against functional gene arrays from twelve known plant genomes”.
  • Dr. Matt Helmus presented “Phylogenetic analyses for ecological community composition”.
  • Prof. Cannon also co-chaired a symposium on “The conservation endgame: what is the best strategy for success?” with XTBG Director, Dr. Jin Chen.
  • PhD student Deli Zhai presented “The vegetation changes of the upper reaches of Changhua river watershed, Hainan island, China”.
  • PhD student Zhaungfang Yi presented a poster, “Modeling the hierarchy decision process on sustainable development: a case study in Menglun, Xishaungbanna, Southwest China.”
  • PhD student Kari Malen presented a poster, “Mapping research achievements and conservation efforts in and around Gunung Palung National Park: assessing twenty-five years of history.”
  • Cannon and Kua presented a poster, “Next-gen sequencing of tropical forest trees: in silico exploration into applied and basic research”
