The Chinese Academy of Sciences recently approved the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden’s proposal to establish a Key Laboratory for Tropical Forest Ecology. With a special focus on forest ecology, the new national laboratory will promote research into the structure, function, dynamics, and impacts of humans and environmental changes on tropical and subtropical forest ecosystems. Meanwhile, XTBG’s staff scientists are developing long-term practicable and effective collaborations with world renowned research teams and optimizing its talents structure, so as to boost development of the Laboratory.

The Laboratory aims to explore key fundamental issues in tropical and subtropical rainforest ecosystems research and management, to serve for the development of forestry science and the nation’s needs.
