Professor Ferry Slik gave an invited keynote lecture at the ‘International Workshop Biodiversity and its Management in East and Southeast Asia’ at Kagoshima University, Japan on March 23, 2010. His lecture was entitled: ‘Tropical Forest Ecology and Conservation in Asia, New Developments in a Time of Crisis’. After the one day workshop, Professor Yoneda and Aiba gave Drs. Slik and Potts on a two day tour to their permanent plots on Yakushima Island, where they saw impressive Pine trees with a diameter of more than 8 m!! Prof. Slik also gave another lecture for Yoneda’s and Eizi Suzuki’s research group titled: “Environmental correlates for tropical forest diversity, composition and biomass”.
