John Harting

Database/GIS Specialist (2008)

John Harting is a visiting research assistant helping in the ecological evolution lab for 6 months.  His tasks include teaching GIS techniques (primarily GRASS) to students and helping to program genomics workflows (using Unix, Python, R, Perl, C/C++ as well as various Open-Source database projects).  Prior to work at XTBG, John worked for almost three years in and around Gunung Palung National Park (Indonesia)–the last year of which was spent rebulding Cabang Panti Research Station at the heart of the park.  John will be returning to the U.S. in February to begin a Ph.D. program studying theoretical evolution and applications of Price’s Theorem.
